Good afternoon Balmoral families
This week, Balmoral students enjoyed participating in the Terry Fox Run and Orange Shirt Day. These are important days for all students to learn about issues that impact all Canadians, and an opportunity to participate in school-wide events and develop strong character and citizenship.
Thank you to our families who sent a “Toonie for Terry” – we raised $635 for the Terry Fox Foundation towards cancer research.
Students also participated in a Community Clean Up day where we all pitched in to clean up the school field and surrounding residential areas. These events help students understand what a positive impact we can have in the community and appreciate the clean green space we have access to.
Please remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 30.
There is still one vacancy on school council – Fundraising Coordinator. This is an important position that has a large impact on school activities. If you are able to volunteer in this role, please contact the school office.
French Update
Bonjour aux parents de Balmoral!
Our French team at Balmoral has an online resource for all our students requiring or interested in extra French practice at home. Please access it frequently throughout the year for language enrichment and review of learning experienced during class time.
Your child can simply access D2L using their regular school username and password. Once in D2L they must select the course called "Balmoral French". They will see announcements and will access their particular grade's materials using the "content" section. Please encourage your child to access this resource and let their teacher know if they are experiencing any technical issues.
We also strongly encourage parents to track their child's progress in French using PowerSchool and please feel free to reach out to their teachers with any questions or concerns.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our French language learning program at Balmoral!
Regards,
Mme. Turner, Mme. Vallee, Mme. Houser, Mme. Gelly, Mme. Ontko et Mme. Pitei

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches are back!
Thank you to our School Council for organizing these great lunches for our students and raising some funds for our school! Our first fun lunch is from Subway and the dates are:
Wednesday, November 5 – Grades 5/6
Thursday, November 6 – Grades 7/8/9
Please log into your Healthy Hunger account and add your children’s names for Balmoral School. You will need to do this again every year even if you ordered food last year. Please ensure you choose the correct grade and teacher when registering your child, and then order lunches.
School Bus Conduct
School buses can be challenging environment for some students, especially at the end of the day. We view our school buses to be an extension of our school, and therefore we expect students to behave appropriately on the bus with the same expectations and respect for bus drivers. Please review the following expectations with your child from CBE Administrative Regulation AR6095: Student Transportation.
22) Violation of any of the following rules may lead to the loss of riding privileges or to suspension from school or to other disciplinary measures under Administrative Regulation 6006 | Progressive Student Discipline:
a) the driver must be respected;
b) while on the bus or at bus stops, students must conduct themselves in a quiet and courteous manner, showing consideration for the comfort and safety of others;
c) when leaving the bus, students must observe the instructions of the bus driver, and must not cross the road without having a clear view on both directions;
d) students must not extend arms and head out of the windows. While the bus is in motion, students must remain seated facing forward, and must not try to get on or off the bus, or move about within the bus;
e) students must not throw paper or other waste materials on the floor or out of the window of the bus;
f) scuffling, fighting, smoking and the use of obscene language on the bus is prohibited;
g) students must not distract the bus driver with excessive noise;
h) students causing willful damage to a bus will be held fully accountable.
If there are any issues on the bus you would like to report to the school, please contact Ms. Keet at kbkeet@cbe.ab.ca
