Good afternoon Balmoral families

Students this week recognized Pink Shirt Day at school, and engaged in conversations and activities related to anti-bullying, kindness, and respect. One of the TLC pillars is “Respect for Others” and this is an important aspect of our Character Education program. Teaching students to respect others even when they might disagree on a topic is an important part of learning.

Online Balmoral School Store is open again!

We have re-opened the online store for one more opportunity to order Balmoral School gear! You can order a crewneck sweatshirt, t-shirt, shorts, sweatpants, and NEW this year – a PINK Balmoral anti-bullying t-shirt! Please see the link below and place your orders before March 28:

Please pay attention to the sizing when ordering – there are NO refunds or exchanges.

Orders will arrive at school about 6 weeks after the store closing date, and we will distribute them to students. Please note this is LAST opportunity to order Balmoral gear this school year – we will re-open the store again in Fall 2025.

Scholastic Book Fair

We are happy to announce our annual book fair dates! This book fair will be held March 17 - 21 (Monday to Friday) from 7:45 – 11:45 am each day. Students will be able to visit the book fair with their class at a designated time or come to the Learning Commons with their teacher’s permission during the week. Parents are welcome to come to school to shop in person in the mornings if they wish during our regular school hours – please sign in at the office if you come by.

If a student purchases a book, they will get a free bookmark or pencil and their name will be entered into the daily draw for some great prizes! All money raised helps us buy new books for our Learning Commons. Thank you for your ongoing support of literacy at Balmoral School.

Impact of CUPE Strike Action

Please ensure you monitor your inbox for email from the CBE regarding CUPE strike action. This is impacting school activities every day. Please note that we are waiting for guidance about the March parent teacher conferences, and whether these will be moved online. We will communicate with you once the decision is made, and open these bookings in mid-March. Parent teacher conferences are currently scheduled for March 20 and 21, 2025.

For all information about labour action, please visit the labour action web page.

Students fasting for Ramadan

We usually have some students fasting for Ramadan each year. The Learning Commons will be open at lunch for students who are fasting. They are welcome to come read a book or play a game while others eat in the cafeteria. No food or drinks are allowed in the Learning Commons.

All classes and learning activities will continue as per usual during Ramadan.

Healthy Hunger Fun Lunches

A reminder that the deadline for all fun lunches is always 5 days before the lunch date. The deadline to order for the Grades 5/6 fun lunch next week has already passed, but if parents would like to order for Grades 7/8/9 on March 5, the deadline is TONIGHT!

Next week’s fun lunch is coming from the restaurant “Quesadilla”. Please go to Healthy Hunger to place an order for your child.

School Council Meeting – March 6

The next school council and parent society meetings will be held on March 6 at 6:30pm ONLINE. A Microsoft Teams link and relevant documents will be sent out early next week.

School Council Fundraising

Thank you all for your support during this school year in fundraising efforts for the betterment of our school.  We rely on your generosity and support and ask for it again for the upcoming events we have planned for our students!

If you have any bottles laying around that you can spare, Sunridge Bottle Depot and Balmoral Scool Council have united to create a bottle drive! Their new program offers in home pick service - no need for drop off. Use the link attached - in additional information use “Balmoral School” as a code so they know where funds should be allocated. Thank you for your support!

High School Registration and Transfer Deadlines

If your child is interested in applying to a different high school other than their designated high school, they must go through the TRANSFER process (online form). Please ensure you know about the high school programs and have a strong reason for transfer. The transfer application form deadline is March 15, 2025:

For questions regarding high school course selections and processes, please contact Ms. Vallee or Ms. Ontko.

Yearbook Cover Design Contest

Calling all artists! We invite all students to submit an entry into our yearbook cover design contest. The requirements are to use the colours BLACK, RED, and WHITE, and include a TIGER logo. Entries are due to Ms. Muckle or Ms. Vallee by March 3.
