Good afternoon Balmoral families

Thank you to all of our families who attended our spring band concert last week. We are so proud of our students for their hard work and practice of their music pieces. Their growth and musical ability was evident on the stage!

Spring is a busy time at school, with a number of year end celebrations and performances coming up. Please read the newsletter carefully so that you are aware of all school events.

Staffing Updates – Grade 6 and Grade 8

Grade 8: Mr. Hajj is currently on a temporary leave of absence. This past week his absence was covered by Ms. Burnham. Starting next week his leave will be covered by Ms. Clarke. Ms. Clarke is an experienced teacher and will be working closely with Ms. Wright to ensure all classes are aligned with curriculum and year-end assessments.

Grade 6: Ms. Boyd is currently on a temporary leave of absence. Her leave will be covered by Ms. Grsic next week, and then Mr. Basi for the following two weeks. These teachers are very familiar with our school processes and work collaboratively to minimize any disruption to learning. Ms. Vallee, our Student Services Learning Leader, will also be supporting Grade 6s during PATs as well to ensure a positive experience for our students.

We understand that teacher changes can be challenging for students. Please let school administration know if your child needs any extra support during this time.

Transportation Registration Deadline – June 22

Due to the changes in walk zones and bussing for many schools, the deadline for registering for next year yellow school bus transportation is now June 22. Please log into your MyCBE account and follow the steps to register for school buses next year.

Please note that late registrations can result in stops being farther away from your home, or possibly not having a bus route to start the school year. If you need support with transportation registration, please call the school office.

NEW Girls Basketball Club After School

We would like to see more of our female students involved in sports at Balmoral School. To support their growth and confidence, we are running an after school basketball club for girls from ALL GRADES. The club will run Wednesdays from 2:30pm – 4:00pm from June 4-18.

All interested students must go to a meeting on Monday at lunch in Room 15. Interested students must have a pre-arranged ride home on Wednesdays at 4pm. If you have any questions about this club, please contact Ms. Ho at asho@cbe.ab.ca

Please Return Library Books

It is time for all students to return any school library books they have borrowed. We aim to get all of our books back to the library by June 12 so we can do a full inventory and repair any damaged books for next year. It is possible that some students have borrowed a book without checking it out as well. We ask that all parents please look for any school library books at home and send them to school before June 12.

If your child has lost their library book, please contact Mrs. Lee at lmlee@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you for your support with returning our precious library books!

IXL Usage Survey – Feedback Requested

Balmoral School has been using IXL for the past two years to support students’ math and reading practice at home. We are finding that the IXL prices increase every year and are in the process of making a decision whether to continue purchasing a school license for next year.

We are looking for parent feedback on this resource – please complete the IXL Usage Survey LINKED HEREThis will give us more information to help us make a decision for next year.

We thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback to us.

School Council Vacancies for Next Year

We will have a few open positions on School Council next year – this is a great opportunity to get involved in school activities, talk more with administration, and give your feedback! Open positions are currently Vice Chair, Treasurer, and Secretary.

Please consider volunteering for one of these positions next year – we value our School Council very much and appreciate their hard work on behalf of the school. If you have any questions about school council, please email balmoral@cbe.ab.ca and we will forward your question to the appropriate person.

School Fees are Due

Please check your MyCBE accounts for any outstanding school fees. It is important to pay these when the activity occurs so that the school is able to continue to offer these opportunities to students. If you need support with waivers or a payment plan, please contact the school office.
