Good afternoon Balmoral families

It has been a great week back at school after spring break. There are many school events coming up so please make a note of these in your calendars.

School Council Texas Donut Fundraiser

Our School Council will be running a Texas Donut (these are very large donuts!) sale on Wednesday, April 30 at school. Each donut will cost $5.50 and the options are Plain, Chocolate Glazed, or Chocolate Glazed with Sprinkles.

Students MUST bring their money to their HOMEROOM teacher by April 23 if they wish to purchase a donut on April 30. Homeroom teachers will be collecting money next week. Extra donuts will NOT be available for sale – only the pre-ordered amounts will be available.

Thank you for your support of this fundraiser!

Presentation: Oscar Lives Next Door

Some of our students will have the opportunity to see a workshop presentation of a new show about Oscar Peterson (famous jazz pianist). The Grade 5 students who are not attending the Zoo trip and Grade 6 students will be watching this performance on Monday morning in the Gym. Some students will also be invited to stay in the gym after the show to provide feedback to the artists. Please see below for some more information:

This year is the centenary of Oscar Peterson's birth on August 15, 2025.  'Oscar Peterson is one of Canada’s most honoured musicians.  He is widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. He was renowned for his remarkable speed and dexterity, meticulous and ornate technique and dazzling, swinging style.’ - Canadian Encyclopedia

The first part of this presentation is based on the book:  ’Oscar Lives Next Door’ by Bonnie Farmer.  The second part of the presentation has been written by Samantha Whelan Kotkas and Priscille Buckahsa.  The two composers for this project are Marianne Trudel and Chris Andrew.  All the creators of this presentation will be coming to your school.

Cultural Foods Bake Sales – April

The spring season brings many dates of significance for cultures around the world. These include Eid-al-Fitr, Holi, Vaisakhi, Songkran, Ridvan, Yom Hashoah, Easter, and many others. To recognize these days, we are inviting students to make/bake treats for sale at lunch for the following days:

April 16 – Grade 7

April 23 – Grades 8 and 9

Please watch your email for a Microsoft Form the week before your child’s grade above. The form will ask you to provide information, including ingredients, for the treats you are sending. We would love to see some treats that celebrate the diversity of cultures at our school. This is an OPTIONAL activity for students, and hopefully we will have lots of tasty treats to share!

Treats will be on sale at lunch on the days above (cash only, about $2 per treat). Money raised will go to Brown Bagging for Kids, a charity that provides food for students at schools. If you have any questions about this event, please email Ms. Boyd at caboyd@cbe.ab.ca

McCarthy Uniforms Purchasing Window now OPEN
