Some of our students will have the opportunity to see a workshop presentation of a new show about Oscar Peterson (famous jazz pianist). The Grade 5 students who are not attending the Zoo trip and Grade 6 students will be watching this performance on Monday morning in the Gym. Some students will also be invited to stay in the gym after the show to provide feedback to the artists. Please see below for some more information:
This year is the centenary of Oscar Peterson's birth on August 15, 2025. 'Oscar Peterson is one of Canada’s most honoured musicians. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest jazz pianists of all time. He was renowned for his remarkable speed and dexterity, meticulous and ornate technique and dazzling, swinging style.’ - Canadian Encyclopedia
The first part of this presentation is based on the book: ’Oscar Lives Next Door’ by Bonnie Farmer. The second part of the presentation has been written by Samantha Whelan Kotkas and Priscille Buckahsa. The two composers for this project are Marianne Trudel and Chris Andrew. All the creators of this presentation will be coming to your school.
